Archive — Home Video Player · Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 16, 2026
Archive is a media player for your own files. It is built so your data stays yours: we do not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. Everything the app knows lives on your Apple TV and never goes anywhere else.
How the app works — and what network access it uses
Archive connects to computers and NAS drives on your own local network using the SMB file-sharing protocol (the same standard Windows, macOS, and NAS devices use to share folders). It uses this access for exactly one purpose: listing and streaming the media files you point it at. The app talks only to the devices you add and to Apple's App Store services for purchases. It has no server of ours to talk to — there is no "cloud" side of Archive at all.
What is stored on the device — locally and encrypted
- Share credentials (the username and password for your own computer or NAS) are stored only in the Apple TV's secure Keychain, encrypted by the operating system. They are used solely to open connections to your own devices and are never transmitted anywhere else.
- Network share details, favorites, watch history, and your library index are stored on-device and encrypted at rest (AES-GCM, with the encryption key held in the Keychain). They are never uploaded, synced, or shared — no one, including us, can access them.
- The playback cache (temporary copies of files while they stream from your shares) lives on the Apple TV and can be cleared any time in Settings. It never leaves the device.
What we never do
- No accounts, no sign-up, no email collection — the app works entirely without identifying you.
- No analytics, no tracking SDKs, no advertising, no fingerprinting. Nothing about you or your usage is sent to us or to anyone else.
- Your media never leaves your network. Streaming happens directly between your Apple TV and your own devices.
Analytics — only ever with your consent
Today the app includes no analytics of any kind. If a future version offers optional, anonymous usage statistics to help improve the app, they will be strictly opt-in: nothing will be collected unless you explicitly agree and accept, the choice will be clearly presented, and saying no (or nothing) will change nothing about how the app works.
Purchases
Optional purchases (Archive Pro) are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We receive only Apple's anonymized transaction confirmation — never your payment details or identity.
Children
The app collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date. Material changes (such as introducing the opt-in analytics described above) will also be announced in the app's release notes.
